Poker has established its own set of etiquettes rules to keep the game flowing fairly and smoothly. Many live games that you might play have a basic set of rules that are shared in every room. However, each casino or room may have their own set of rules on what is accepted at the room and what is not accepted. This may include things such as what may be accepted in a certain room but unacceptable at other rooms. Despite the slight differences from one room to another, there are some guidelines for live play etiquette.
The first rule of the game is not to describe the way a player waits for time before displaying the winning cards at a game. The reason behind this rule is that it gives other players a sense that they have won the game and it slows the game play.
The second basic rule is not to talk about your cards in the middle of the game; this is because the cards that you may mention may have a negative effect on the way game progresses as some players may be drawing the cards you have mucked.
The third rule is to never try betting or throw and raise the chips carelessly into the middle of the table. This etiquette is so poor since it makes things awkward for the winning player and generally makes the pot size more difficult to calculate.
Most of these rules have been put in place by card rooms or casinos, other rules have advanced from the fair play mutual decency that is expected at the poker table. Distinguishing factor is that the casino rules and regulations may earn a player caution if you go against them; general player etiquette may also annoy and frustrate players at the table if not followed.
